Cut determines the light performance of a diamond and is based on a combination of factors: proportions, symmetry, and polish (the overall surface condition of a diamond’s facets). These proportions have the most significant impact on the diamond’s overall beauty and sparkle. Not to be confused with diamond shape – shape refers to the external geometric appearance of a diamond. A well cut diamond will exhibit these 3 characteristics – brilliance (white light), fire (spectral colors), scintillation (the sparkle when the diamond, observer, or light moves).
Color
The diamond color grading scale is an alphabetical scale starting with the letter D representing colorlessness and continues with increasing presence of color to the letter Z, representing light yellow, light brown or light gray. Diamonds can form in any hue, but for the diamonds that fall in the D-Z color grade, the absence of color represents the highest value.
Clarity
Diamond clarity is a measure of purity and rarity of the stone. The diamond is graded and evaluated for visibility of characteristics under 10-power magnification. These characteristics can be present on the surface (blemishes) or within the stone (inclusions). The clarity is judged by the number and types of these characteristics and is designated using a scale that runs from Fl, defined as flawless, to I3, defined as inclusions visible with the naked eye. A flawless diamond is truly rare.
Carat
Carat refers to the weight of the diamond. Carat weight is also referred to by point – there are 100 points in 1.00 carat. The carat weight is the biggest determination of the diamonds value, or price. 1.00 carat will cost more than a .99 carat. Bigger is not always better, and a larger carat weight does not always mean a flashier diamond. The sparkle will be mostly determined by the cut grade, color, and clarity.
Earth Mined Diamonds
Our Earth Mined Diamonds come from the earth. Mother Nature takes her time to create them, usually a few billion years, but Earth Mined Diamonds are worth the wait. Because the highest-quality mined diamonds are naturally scarce.
Lab Grown Diamonds share the same properties as earth mined diamonds. In fact, they look identical to earth mined diamonds but can cost significantly less. This marvel of modern technology is revolutionary.
